I think we should adopt a little girl from China...

These were the words I blurted out to my husband at almost mid-night on August 9, 2008! He was watching the 2008 summer Olympics and I was downstairs watching Steven Curtis Chapman and family on Larry King Live. I was so touched by their passion for adoption and their strength through the recent loss of their adopted daughter, Maria in May. I had stayed up on how the family was doing, but it wasn't until this night that I was touched beyond words. I went upstairs after watching the show and with tears in my eyes told my husband Kevin their story and the many ways that God was using this tradegy for good. What came next out of my mouth was completely unexpected by Kevin (and even myself). I couldn't hold it in and I said "I think we should adopt a little girl from China!" He looked at me for a second, and then slowly said "okay." I then said "I'm serious." To my surprise he quickly said "Let's do it!" Adoption was not something either of us had on our hearts before, but it was evident that God placed it there that night!

That night I could hardly sleep. I honestly felt like I had just found out that I was pregnant-it was exciting and scary all at the same time. The next day we talked about it more and we both still agreed to pursue it-it seemed SO right! I called my dear friend Cami to share the news. Cami and her husband Brian adopted two amazing boys from Guatemala and I knew she would share in my joy...she did! In fact we are both hoping to start an adoption ministry at our church.
