Well, today we got the call from our agency that we have been waiting for a long time (1 year 7 months and 7 days to be exact)! I didn't recognize the number when the phone rang at 7:03 a.m. (it was a 703 area code) so I didn't pick up. A few seconds after the last ring it crossed my mind that just maybe it could be our agency, but I just wasn't sure since I've always called a 800 number to reach them. I ran downstairs and grabbed my cell phone and dialed the number on my caller I.D. Sure enough, it was America World! I was transferred to Leah our family coordinator and she said "I have a referral for you...she is 11 months old and has a repaired VSD" (hole in the heart). Words truly can't explain the emotion I was feeling at that moment...I thought I was dreaming. She shared with me the steps we would take should we accept the referral and within five minutes I had these pictures of her and her medical information. Her picture melted my heart instantly (I can't wait to kiss those chubby cheeks)!
Kevin was at a prayer group...I called him and he headed home. My Mom was at work, I called her and she headed over. While waiting for them I called my best friend Shaunda at work and sent her these pictures...she was just as excited as me! Within 10 minutes Kevin and my Mom were at our house ready to see this sweet little girl I had just received minutes before. Kaleb was still asleep when all this was taking place and Konner was sitting on my lap taking it all in. When I told him that there was a little girl for our family and showed him the pictures he said "that's not the one I wanted." I said, "What do you mean?" He said, "she doesn't have two ponies on her head like I wanted her to." He has pictured her with two pony tails on her head the entire time we have been waiting for her...bless his little heart. I'm hoping that somehow, someway she just might have those two ponies in her hair when we pick her up! When I showed Kaleb her picture, he smiled big and said "Konner is the boss of me and I'm the boss of Kamdynn-right?" He has been waiting for his turn to be a BIG brother for a long time, so it doesn't surprise me at all that he said that! They are both so proud and excited!
Kevin took the day off and we tackled some more paperwork and drove to NW Children's Heart Care Center to have Dr. Park review her medical file. The first thing he noticed right away was that she looked healthy. He said "a child with heart issues doesn't look like this, she obviously has a repaired heart condition and is doing well". Her medical file didn't have much information on her condition or when her surgery was. It just stated that she had VSD and had surgery to fix it. We were encouraged by what he shared and decided to move forward with adopting her! Dr. Park and Kevin connected right away and talked basketball for a bit...trust me, I was rolling my eyes, as that was the last thing on my mind! Dr. Park has agreed to be our "heart" doctor and will see her right away when we return from China to make sure everything is okay. We are thrilled to have such a knowledgeable and dedicated Doctor to care for our little girl!
So with ALL that being said, our family would like to introduce you to Zhang Qi Feng (soon to be Kamdynn Grace Zhang Hampton)! Please continue to keep our family in your prayers as we prepare to travel to China to pick up this little blessing and bring her HOME!
